Dear Children, Parent/Carers,
We hope you enjoyed the activities from last week. It has been great to hear from so many of you. Once we have caught up with ourselves a little we will post pictures of you and your work on the website. We know it’s difficult to work at home but you’ll find it easier if you have a regular place and routine to your work. Make sure you have everything you need before you begin. At school, we follow the webpage just like you at home. We know the Teams assignments have had a rocky start – well done to so many of you for persevering with the Art activity last week. Hopefully they’ll work better this week.
Parents, thank you for all your kind words and support. As always we welcome all your feedback and suggestions.
Twice a week, we will ask the children to submit (Turn in) work via a Teams assignment for feedback. These are not optional. If your child attends school on the days when assignments have been set, they will complete those assignments at school. We know the system can be tricky and that it hasn’t been perfect so far but it is really important that we all persevere with it. If you have trouble using Teams please let us know, but these tasks must be completed. There will always be a deadline on the Teams assignments but work can still be submitted (Turned in) after the deadline and we will still give feedback. So if you still haven’t completed or forgot to to press the submit (Turn in) button on last week’s assignment – it’s never too late. We will be following up on these on Monday. In addition, we would be delighted to see photos, examples of work or completed challenges on any subject so please feel free to email these to year4@abbeyroadprimary.co.uk.
This week the Teams assignments are planned for Tuesday (RE – currently being edited – available Monday) and Friday (Science – available Thursday).
We suggest the following times for lessons/activities:
Spelling, times-tables, personal reading: 30 – 40 mins daily (or as long as your child wants if happily reading a good book!)
Guided Reading: 20 – 25 mins
Literacy, Maths, Science, History or Geography: 40 – 50 mins
Other subjects such as ART, DT, ICT, PHSE and RE: 30 – 40 mins
Daily physical activity: 60 mins
These are suggested times and you may find that your child works quickly and completes the task well before the minimum time – we’d suggest they look back and check their work – Is it presented well? Have they joined their writing? What about capital letters and full-stops? Is their writing exciting? Does it make sense? Have they explained things fully in Maths using the correct vocabulary? Have they given reasons for their choices or opinions? Have they done their best? Would they be happy to show it to Mrs Avery or Mrs Marshall?
On the other hand, your child may find some of these tasks quite a challenge. We would spend no more than the suggested time and let us know so what we can provide some additional material or suggestions to help support them.
The work in this post explains what you should be doing whether you are at home or at school on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th January 2021.

Follow this link: https://www.discoveryeducation.co.uk/what-we-offer/discovery-education-coding
Click Login in the top right hand corner and select Espresso.
Use Student25350 and the password: ARpass to login and click on coding. The children are all very familiar with this process.
Click “Block coding” on the menu bar at the top and select level 4 from the dropdown menu.
From here the children can access refresher lessons on Levels 1- 3 or move straight on to Level 4: An introduction to variables.
For today we would like them to look at Tablet till and Pirate gold within Level 4.
This is an activity that most children will be able to complete independently.
