Happy New Year and welcome back to school! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break. Thank you all so much for the cards, gifts and words of kindness, it is much appreciated.
The children returned to school on Monday morning smiley and ready to learn!
Here are some photographs of out Finger Gym. We practised reading and writing the tricky words, ‘I’, ‘my’ and ‘the’. Can your child read these words at home? Can they spell them? This week, we are practising reading and writing, ‘no’ and ‘go’.
We also practised formation of, ‘c’, ‘a’, ‘d’, ‘o’. These letters all start with the same anti-clockwise movement. Can your child form these letters the correct way?
This half term, we are basing our learning around the theme of traditional stories and fairy tales. We kicked off our new topic with the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We read some different versions of the story and enjoyed acting them out in the role play area and small world.
We had lots of fun making our own porridge that tasted “just right”!
Rainbow Class enjoyed a visit to West Bridgford Library. The children walked so sensibly and safely and listened really well to the librarians, we were so proud of them!
Thank you very much to the lovely parents who volunteered to walk with us. We really appreciate it – trips like this wouldn’t be possible without you. We hope you had fun!
In maths, we have been learning about repeating patterns…
Next week, we are basing our learning around the story of The Gingerbread Man. Activities we are doing include,
- Retelling the story by acting out or using puppets and toys,
- Writing parts of the story eg ‘run, run, as fast as you can!’,
- Baking our own gingerbread men,
- Counting buttons on to our gingerbread men and using them to learn about addition (up to 10),
- Painting and collaging gingerbread men.
Sunshine Class are visiting the library on Thursday. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help, you are all welcome to come along.
