Home Learning Letter – Year 2

Dear Parents/Carers,

This post outlines work for Wednesday 20th January­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­. Further guidance for the week will be uploaded in due course. When completing tasks, children can either do so electronically (via Microsoft PowerPoint or Word) or by recording work on separate sheets of paper or a notepad.

TEAMS ASSIGNMENTS

We will be setting two assignments via Teams a week, these tasks must be completed and submitted for feedback on the same day unless specified. Please remember to turn in the work so the Year 2 Team can feedback to your child. If you have any technical issues when using Teams please contact the school office for support.

Reminder Book Change Friday:

READING:

Delivery service: All children will be hand delivered a set of their colour band reading books (unless they attend school during the week). Please be aware, that children may receive books they have already read or ones that may seem easier than others.

Please note: Repetition is useful as the children can learn to use / practice using expression, answer more in-depth comprehension questions – both written and oral (see VIPERs questions in their reading diaries)

Collection: Friday 22nd January.

For collection, please place the books in a carrier bag outside your front door before 9am, so school staff can collect them as safely as possible.

The books will then be quarantined over the weekend, re-organised and redistributed the following week.

Additional Reading

You may have read in the press that Oak National Academy are providing a Virtual School Library, they are releasing a book a week with activities provided. This week it is ‘The Story of Tracy Beaker’- Jacqueline Wilson.

All e-books are free of charge on Oxford Owl please follow the colour book band used in school – this is found stapled in their reading diary. To access these parents can create a free account.

Please have a go at reading aloud the instructions for ‘Making a bird feeder’ remember to pay close attention to punctuation and use a clear expressive voice. You may want to follow the instructions to make your own. Its the time of year when our local wildlife would appreciate some food.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week we are continuing with reading and writing instructions. Please work through this powerpoint  then todays task is ordering instructions into the correct sequence for brushing teeth.   Click here for todays task 

MATHS

We are continuing to focus on money. Today we are making the same amount using different notes and coins. If you are unable to answer a question or print the sheets, please discuss the question, and do what you can for each without printing. Try using real money to support this task and record any answers on a piece of paper or in a notebook.

RE

This term we are studying Jesus’ Parables. Today we will explore the story of The Prodigal Son and think about the hidden meaning. Watch this video of the story, stopping at the point when he decides to return home.
