Year 3 enjoyed a ‘Wow’ moment this afternoon. We introduced our new Geography topic – Mountains, Volcanoes and Earthquakes and made a small explosion using Coca Cola and a Mento sweet. The children predicted what would happen then discussed what had happened and why. We then also tried to explode it again – but we learnt that most of the gas (carbon dioxide) within the Cola had already reacted with the mento so another explosion was not possible.
We finished the afternoon in true Forest School style with hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows on the campfire!
