Home Learning Letter – Year 6

WB 07.12.20

Dear parents/carers,

Whilst learning from home, there will be a suggested timetable of activities for the children to complete each day. These are the activities that children would have completed if they were in school. We understand that learning from home looks different for each family, and so please use the timetable to suit your family. Please also encourage the children to keep active during this time – this may be by using ‘Just Dance’ videos or games in the house.

This post outlines work for Wednesday 9th December and Thursday 10th December. Further guidance for the week will be uploaded in due course. When completing tasks, children can either do so electronically (via Microsoft PowerPoint or Word) or by recording work in their homework books. If your child does not have their homework book, then separate sheets of paper or a notepad is not a problem. For feedback, please submit work by emailing head@abbeyroadprimary.co.uk.

R.E.

This week we are looking at morals and moral dilemmas with a focus on money. Use this powerpoint and respond to the questions asked. Where possible, speak with a family member to discuss these ideas and concepts. Record any responses in your homework book.

ART

We are going to create a different portrait today and use a different medium (art materials). Choose your own subject – this could be a sitting subject or a photograph of somebody. Then, choose how you want to create your portrait. You can be really creative with this – you could create a portrait by using coloured pencils, paints or a collage using the colours from unwanted magazines or newspapers! We can’t wait to see how creative you have been. Remember to include the techniques involving proportion we have looked at to add likeness to your portrait. For inspiration, look at this PowerPoint.

THURSDAY

GUIDED READING

Use Microsoft Teams to complete Thursday’s section of your assignment. You will need pages 201 and 202 from the scanned chapters today (found in the resources section of your assignment). Why are Sharpe and Daniel angry? Find 2 reasons for each person.

ENGLISH

Using the Talk for Writing activity sheet, complete activity 11. Re-read and check your work – did you include all of the features that you had planned to? Do you think your advert is persuasive enough? Make any changes that you think are necessary. If your work is handwritten, you may like to re-write your work and add pictures or drawings and send a photo of the final work to head@abbeyroadprimary.co.uk for feedback.

P.S.H.E.

We are carrying on celebrating differences this week. Use this powerpoint to explore the idea of differences causing conflicts and being a reason to celebrate. Once you have read through the PowerPoint, create a comic strip which includes the 3 parts of the scenario (listed on the PowerPoint).

If you have any questions or have work to submit, please send an email to head@abbeyroadprimary.co.uk.

Kind regards,

The Year 6 Team
