Home Learning Letter – Year 6

Dear parents/carers,
Whilst learning from home, there will be a suggested timetable of activities for the children to complete each day. These are the activities that children would have completed if they were in school. We understand that learning from home looks different for each family, and so please use the timetable to suit your family. Please also encourage the children to keep active during this time – this may be by using ‘Just Dance’ videos or games in the house.
This post outlines work for Friday 4th December. Further guidance for next week will be uploaded in due course. When completing tasks, children can either do so electronically (via Microsoft PowerPoint or Word) or by recording work in their homework books. If your child does not have their homework book, then separate sheets of paper or a notepad is not a problem. For feedback, please submit work by emailing head@abbeyroadprimary.co.uk.
YEAR 6 WORLD WAR 2 DAY- Monday 14th December
To end our term of learning about World War 2, we are having a themed day on Monday 14th December looking at how the war ended and the celebrations that were had. In order to embrace the day, we ask that every child comes in a World War 2 costume! There is no need to purchase a costume specially for this day. The costume is just for fun and can be made from items from home (for more details, look at this list). We are hoping that the children will have returned by this date and are looking forward to a day of fun celebrating our learning.
FRIDAY
GUIDED READING
Use the assignment on Teams to complete Friday’s task. You will need chapters 21 and 22 today, which can be found in the resources section of the assignment on Microsoft Teams. Once you have completed the week’s guided reading, you can submit and turn in your assignment. Once you have done this, we know you have finished your work.
ENGLISH
Using the Talk for Writing document, complete Activity 5 on page 9. We have done some work on including quotes in our writing, but we would like everyone to recap this and especially practice adding more information about the person too! Have a go at writing 3 quotes yourself using the structure of the model shown on page 9.
MATHS
Today, we’re going to use our understanding of the order of operations and apply it to fractions. Use the video below and then complete this worksheet.

COMPUTING
Today we’re going to look at algorithms and how we can debug an algorithm. Use this sheet to explore an ‘unplugged’ problem. Once you have debugged the algorithm, write your own for a family member to follow. Did they produce what you expected them to? Do you need to debug your code?
As an optional extra, you may choose to explore using tynker.com and login using the details from your diary.
