Today the year 3 children have enjoyed getting stuck into our DT day! As we finished our Ancient China topic yesterday, we tasted some shop-bought vegetable spring rolls. The children sampled and evaluated them deciding the parts they liked/disliked. Then today we made our own delicious version (we may be biased but we think ours were even better than the ones from the shop!)
All the children took part in the various stations cutting, grating and peeling. They then had to make the difficult decision which they would like to include in their own spring rolls… carrots, mushrooms, beansprouts, spring onion, cabbage or peppers. Lots of children had all of the vegetables and even trialled soy sauce!
After the vegetables were prepared we fried them and then this afternoon the children carefully rolled up their ingredients into a perfect spring roll shaped parcel. Next, we brushed them with a bit of oil to make sure they were golden and crispy. Finally, we waited (very eagerly) for them to cool and then proudly demolished them.
Well done year 3- as ever you were extremely sensible and produced some amazing spring rolls!
