In today’s Forest School session, we took our geography learning outside and explored what makes a volcano erupt. We discussed that deep within the Earth it is so hot that some rocks slowly melt and become magma. Since it is lighter than the solid rock around it, magma rises and collects in magma chambers. Eventually, some of the magma pushes through vents and explodes out into to the Earth’s surface. We then imagined we had some of our own volcanic explosions first using mentos and coke and then bicarbonate of soda and vinegar.
After that, we enjoyed some Easter-themed games and finally ended with a delicious nest cake which we prepared using chocolate that we melted on our fire.
Well done for being such super volcanologists Year 3!
