The Abbey Road School and Wellbeing Council would like to take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU for all your generous donations for The Great Notts Christmas Toy Appeal. We felt so proud to turn up to the drop off zone with a car full of gifts, set to put smiles on faces on Christmas Day.
The morning started with our council members transforming into little Christmas elves, filling up Mrs Phillips’ car with all the gifts! It took 16 of us! Then two of our elder elves joined Mrs Phillips in taking them to the drop off zone at St John’s Church in Bilborough, where they were met by Hazel and her father who run the charity. Hazel told us all about the challenging situations some of the families, children, refugees, homeless young adults and women’s refuges face at Christmas time – and how our donations can help to put smiles on faces, as well as bring relief to parents struggling at Christmas time.
We were then set to work, sorting toys and gifts into the right zones. Never had we seen so many selection boxes and cuddly toys! There were so many donations, it was really heart warming to see the potential happiness it was all going to bring. We were all amazed that by the afternoon, once it has all been sorted, it will all get collected and then the deliveries will happen all over again on Wednesday and Thursday!
A quick mince pie and a cupcake and we made our way back to school in time for lunch.
Once again, thank you so much for your kind generosity. We saw today the difference it makes as well as the sheer scale of the operation and we felt so proud to be part of it.
