It has been another bugtastic week in Foundation! We have been using ‘The very hungry caterpillar’- Eric Carle to inspire our learning. We have been nurturing our very own hungry caterpillars. In finger gym we have been cutting and colouring caterpillars, adding rays to sunshines, practising our letter formation and name writing(including surnames) and writing facts about caterpillars.

Thank you for sending in your empty egg cartons they have been used to make some very creative caterpillars. Throughout this week the children have written their own versions of the hungry caterpillar book. We are so proud of their efforts.

Challenges this week have included using the pestle and mortar to grind a mixture of herbs. The smell of rosemary in Foundation has been lovely. The children have been making get well cards for the caterpillar(after eating to much!). Acting out the story of the hungry caterpillar using the stick puppets and of course making their egg carton caterpillars.

Our maths learning this week  has focused on doubles to 10. We learnt a new rap, ‘Doubles, Doubles’. The children also enjoyed playing with the dominoes to help consolidate their knowledge.

In PSHE this term we have been thinking about relationships, particularly being a good friend. We have talked about how it feels to be lonely and how we can help ourselves and others to be included. We have spent a lot of time this week supporting the children in developing positive relationships with others in Foundation. We are continously reinforcing the message that at Abbey Road we use kind hands, kind feet and kind words.
