Year 1 Home Learning Letter

Monday 25th January

Dear Parents / Carers,

We hope that you have all had a lovely weekend and are ready to start this week’s home schooling! Thank you for leaving your reading books out today ready for collection. We will be delivering books later on in the week. Please continue reading every day with your child using the Oxford Owls Website or picture books that you have at home.

Here is the timetable for today’s activities.

Literacy

This week we are basing our literacy on the book ‘The Way Back Home’ by Oliver Jeffers. Please listen to Mrs. Poole reading the story.

You are going to design an alien and write interesting sentences to describe it. Watch Mrs. Poole tell you all about the activity.

Use this alien word sheet to help with your spellings.

Spellings

Spend 5 minutes practising this week’s words: play away stayed holiday always today

Phonics

Join in with Rosie’s Phonics. Today’s sound is ire.

Maths

Today you are looking at related subtraction and addition facts. Watch the video and answer the questions on the worksheet.

History

Today we are going to be learning about a famous explorer Roald Amundsen.

Look at the power point to find out about his life. You might need a grown up to help you read it.

This is a real video clip of Roald Amundsen going off on his expedition. Look at all the lovely dogs! How are the clothes different to the clothes we wear today?

Now draw a picture of Roald Amundsen in his warm clothes, with his dogs and sledge, going to the South Pole. Write at least three interesting facts that you have learnt about him. Remember to write in complete sentences with capital letters and full stops.
